Trash Pick Up: Service Project

Do you live in a coastal area of South Carolina? If so a beach sweep is right for you. Litter is a major problem in our state and on our beaches. To help reduce the amount of trash in our area, organize a beach sweep. If you do not live near the beach, then you can clean up a park, side of the road, or a boat landing. Boat landings are highly populated with litter because when people get off of their boats they often leave their garbage, clothes, tools, and other boating accessories along the property. This is a major hazard because it is so close to water and is at risk harming aquatic animals. A really great organization to team up with to reduce litter in our state is Palmetto Pride. Palmetto Pride is a non-profit organization that is responsible to keeping litter off our highways, interstates, and roads. They will gladly help supply your club with trash bags, safety vests, and gloves. All that you will be responsible for is disposing of the trash in a safe and timely manner.
